GUP-py/Yoko Hata (JP/DE)
Underhoney, 2006
12:10

film still

The half-filmed, half-animated video work »underhoney« will invite you to a small trip to the imaginary honey-colored city as if the city were sunk under the sea of honey. An animated submarine swims between the shiny landscapes of Berlin which appear only during the sunset. After then you will be refreshed and ready for the following day to repeating the same things as on the day before – typing on the same keyboard, seeing always the same landscape thru your study's window … . But you know that you can reward yourself on the way home after your job.

Biography

Since 1995 in Berlin. Works in Berlin and Japan.
The starting point of GUP-py's works are always stories written by the artists themselves which develop poetic images by the usage of a reduced, graphical visual language. The narrative video works are often fantasies which focus on the poetry of the daily life by a minimal shifting the view on the self. GUP-py works in the field between video, print media, typography and installation.
